Gai Ka Prow, which means stir fried minced chicken with hot basil, remains one of the most popular and well-loved Thai street food of all time. This dish is known for its amazing aroma of basil and for having just the right amount of spice. For a complete Thai experience, eat it with crisp lettuce wraps.This dish serves 2 to 3 people.

Preparation time: 15 minutes | Cooking time: 5 minutes





2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 ½ teaspoons garlic, minced
1 ½ teaspoons green and red chilis, minced
180 grams breast chicken, minced
2 pieces long beans, 2 inches
½ cup chicken stock
1 ½ teaspoons oyster sauce
Pinch of pepper
1 tablespoon dark soy sauce
1 teaspoon sweet soy sauce
10 pieces fresh hot basil,
plus ¼ cup hot basil, deep fried


  1.  Place oil in a hot pan. Add the garlic and chili. Saute until golden brown.
  2. Add the minced chicken and long beans. Pour the chicken stock and season with oyster sauce, pepper, dark soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, and fresh hot basil.
  3. Stir fry for 1 minute. Transfer to serving plate and top with deep fried hot basil. Serve with steamed rice and fried egg.
