While Salamangka is inspired by Filipino mythological folklore, one can’t help but notice its similarities with Greek mythological creature, Cerberus. The character is said to be the “hound of Hades”,or the three-headed dog of the underworld. And like this hound, Salamangka also claims three faces – one as a cafe and coworking space, another a late night bar, and then as a full-blown diner.
A place to work and create ideas
Upon entering, you’ll immediately feel that this is a space where you can focus and get some serious work done. The big sign in front that says “Electrical outlets available, free wifi” made sure of that. And of course, the perfect companion while working is great-tasting coffee, which Salamangka specializes in.
Coffee is an acquired taste for many and for those who are just getting used to its bitterness, the Kapeko 3-in-1 is a great introduction. As its name implies, the Kapeko 3-in-1 aims to replicate the taste of 3-in-1 coffee. It has just the right amount of sweetness and bitterness melded together.
Staying true to its roots, Salamangka also has a latte flavor that is sure to excite the taste buds of Pinoys. Enter the Ube Latte, which is a must-try especially if you like a distinctly unique flavor to your caffeine fix.For those who like it strong and bold, their Brewed Coffee is the perfect choice. For this, Salamangka has a fine selection of beans such as Ethiopian and Indonesian.
A place for late-night drinking
When the sun sets, this cafe transforms into a different kind of beast. Aside from the local craft beer on hand, they also serve cocktails (all of which are homemade and created in-house). You’ll be surprised at how much a glass of it costs – only Php99.
Get a taste of local craft beer Engkanto made available in four variants that will suit your every mood- the Lager, the Pale Ale,the IPA, and the Double IPA. If you can’t choose which among the four is best for you, you can give them all a try with the Beer Flight. It includes all four variants which will help you pick your favorite, or maybe just give you the best of all worlds.
Wakwak, the bird-like creature in Filipino folklore, is notorious for snatching humans at night. True enough, Salamangka’s take on the Wakwak will snatch your heart, but for all the good reasons. It contains rum and can come in mango, lime, and mint. Ideally, a manananggal will leave anyone in fits of fear, but not this one. Salamangka’s version of the Manananggal will definitely put a smile on your face – hence, a vodka-based drink that contains calamansi, cucumber, and mint leaves.
A place to grab some bites
Aside from the drinks, they also have their fair share of eats. With their curated menu of Pinoy favorites, you’ll surely find something to whet your appetite. Among all Filipino cuisines, the Sinigang is one of the most iconic. That’s why you can never go wrong with Salamangka’s Sinigang sa Manggang Hilaw. Their Itlog na Maalat has also steadily become one of their bestsellers. Just imagine salted egg-flavored wings to go with your drink.
Their new Tuyo Fried Rice, Tinapa Fried Rice, Arroz a la Cubana, and Pritong Tapa will remind you of those early morning fares you wouldn’t mind stuffing your face in.
